Why do we pray? The short answer is because the bell rings to tell us its time for prayer. Living busy lives in the world we don't have the support of the ordered daily routine of a monastic community. Yet, participation in the Common Prayer of the Church is a practice that our Anglican Tradition strongly encourages. Using the Daily Office is a way of praying that links us to all the other Christians who are likewise using this form of prayer. We literally plug ourselves into the prayer that is unceasing. Using this form of prayer also frees us from the tyranny of our moods. We don't need to feel like doing it or feel particularly close to God or imaginative in the given moment. The structure supports us and connects us to that great cloud of witnesses that constantly surrounds us.
For many of us living busy lives its impractical to carry around a Book of Common Prayer and Bible with us. Therefore, for those of us who work from our desktops and are on the go with smart phone supports the following links will help you to support a regular pattern of daily prayer that fits the structure and demands of your day.
